“Dell has agreed to use Advanced Micro Devices’ Opteron chip in multiprocessor servers by the end of the year, ending a long-standing policy of sticking exclusively with Intel.” Read more…
It had to happen sooner or later what with AMD beating the snot out of Intel in the multi-core arena for nearly three years now. I have made it no secret that I really like AMD. The biggest reason being they have superior technology at a great price. I also really like Dell for pretty much the same reason. Now as soon as they have AMD powered desktop machines they will get our desktop business as well.
What about you. Does this announcement affect your server purchase decisions?
I read this same thing this week in computerworld and knew that Dell didn’t have a choice. The new dual core AMD chips run microsoft products like SQL server so fast and are much cheaper and cooler it is a great move.

I have always liked Dell. I bought a laptop from them recently and can’t wait to purchase an AMD powered desktop. Thanks for the post.
I never liked Dell as much as others. My experience with them has been problems; not necessarily with the product but more so with the customer service. My tech friend agrees their customer service leaves a bit to be desired. But to each his own. I was surfing online for some information about color printing when I came one this post. Thanks for the information.
